Urban freight is nearly completely moved by trucks, vans and dedicated city distribution vehicles. The next workshop of the BESTUFS thematic network in Turin on the 17th - 18th January 2001 is addressing these motorised urban freight distribution vehicles.
There are many interesting aspects with respect to urban freight distribution vehicles like e.g. emission and environmental aspects, vehicle technical equipment and loading/unloading support, IT-infrastructure and OBCs, safety issues etc. which cannot be addressed exhaustively in one workshop. The Turin workshop has therefore on the one hand a concrete focus, which was already tackled in earlier BESTUFS workshops: the load capacity in weight and volume and related possible flexible solutions (e.g. modular load space, same chassis for different dimensions, etc.). And on the other hand, meeting at this first vehicle oriented workshop, there should be enough freedom to highlight also other challenging issues e.g. from those listed above.
Workshop contents: Within the workshop, presentations from vehicle manufacturers will dominate, but also transport operators and if possible a city are envisaged to contribute their views.
The workshop will concentrate on the following questions (always in relation to the load capacity in weight and volume and related possible flexible solutions):
In addition, the workshop allows to touch on further urban transport vehicle related aspects.
Organisation: The workshop will start on Wednesday, 17th January at 10:30 in the morning and will continue until about 18:00 in the late afternoon. The workshop is supported by IVECO and participants have the opportunity to visit the FIAT vehicle research centre close to Turin. In the morning of the second day (18th January) a bus leaves at 9:00 to this "Centro Ricerce Fiat" at Orbassano where a guided tour is organised for about 2 hours. The bus will bring the participants back to Turin, arriving there at 13:00 the latest.
