Summary:

The BESTUFS II national seminar in Lithuania was a discussion-filled event where dialog between researchers and representatives of public authorities exchanged the points of view. The Bestufs II project objectives presented to representatives of Municipalities of larges Lithuanian cities. The Best practice Guide was overviewed and distributed. The seminar was a good place to collect all urban transport stakeholders together for discussion. The need of much deeper bridging between research and public authorities was been highlighted. Researchers presented what they do in the field of urban transport from one hand, and representatives of municipalities express their objectives, problems and ideas of what they need to discuss from the other hand. In addition, important thing was been highlighted about need of common cooperation solving congestion problems. Representative of MoTC presented efforts of Governmental institution to establish public open type logistics centres, which actually will be a good tool for urban heavy traffic reduction. Very interesting presentation was made by representative of Vilnius municipal enterprises Susisiekimo paslaugos that ordinate public transport and parking system in Vilnius. Experience shows, that implementation of smart IT solutions, new management systems helped to increase of number of passengers in public transport. However the non effective use of private cars and congestion during the peek hours still remain on the main problem in Lithuanian capital city. Transprto pasaulis Journal and Kelias Journal will disseminate the main outcomes of the seminar.
